21 Hours Later… Hong Kong

After 21 hours in the air, I finally stepped onto the ground in Hong Kong.

There’s something surreal about that moment. Your body feels like it’s been through a marathon, your sense of time is completely gone, and yet there’s this rush of excitement running through you. One step off the plane and you realize… you’re halfway around the world.
The last 21 hours were a mix of emotions. Excitement. Exhaustion. Moments where I stared at the flight map thinking, how am I going to do another 10 hours… 8 hours… even 5 more hours of this? Long-haul travel definitely tests you.
But somewhere between the meals, the movies, and trying to sleep in a seat that definitely wasn’t designed for it, something happened that reminded me why I love traveling so much.
People.
I met two fellow travelers sitting beside me, both on their own journeys. One heading to China to teach English and start a completely new chapter of life. The other taking a quick holiday in Hong Kong, simply chasing a bit of adventure.
Three strangers, thousands of miles above the Pacific, sharing stories about where we’re from and where we’re headed.
That’s the magic of travel.
It brings people together who otherwise would have never crossed paths. Different lives, different stories, one shared moment somewhere over the ocean.
So to my new friends Lau and David, thanks for making those 21 hours a little shorter and a lot more memorable. Safe travels on your journeys.
Now it’s time for a quick two-hour layover here in Hong Kong… and then it’s off to the Land of Smiles.
Next stop: Bangkok, Thailand.
